Principal’s Welcome

Omeo Primary School has been a cornerstone of education in the Victorian High Country since 1866. Today, we continue to honour this rich history while embracing contemporary approaches to teaching, learning and wellbeing. Our students come from across the region—including Dinner Plain, Benambra and the Omeo Valley—bringing diversity, curiosity and a strong sense of community to our learning environment.

At the heart of our school are the values of Respect, Inclusion, Persistence, Enjoyment and Excellence, which guide how we learn, interact and grow together. We are committed to a strengths-based approach, focusing on what each student can do and building on those capabilities to develop confident, compassionate and capable learners.
Omeo Primary School provides a dynamic curriculum supported by specialist teachers in Art, Physical Education and Science, alongside a wide range of rich learning experiences. Our unique High Country setting allows us to offer programs that are truly distinctive, including our specialist Alpine Ski Program each winter and a comprehensive intensive swimming program in summer. Students in Years 3–6 also enjoy an engaging and varied camps program, fostering independence, teamwork and leadership.

Our facilities blend the charm of our historic buildings with modern, flexible learning spaces, including a fully equipped art room, a refurbished library, large undercover sports area, spacious oval and landscaped grounds. Our STEM Centre, complete with a student-friendly kitchen and dining space, supports hands-on learning through our kitchen–garden program.

As a school, we believe that every child learns differently and deserves the opportunity to thrive. When students make poor behavioural choices, we respond with educative, restorative and logical consequences, helping students understand their impact, rebuild relationships and learn the skills needed to make positive choices in the future.
We maintain strong partnerships across the Far East, Lakes and High Country Network and work closely with Omeo District Health and neighbouring schools. Through video conferencing and collaborative initiatives such as Schools as Hubs, our staff and students access high-quality professional learning and academic support, regardless of distance.
Parents and carers are valued partners in our learning community. We warmly welcome involvement in classroom activities, school events, committees and improvement projects—reflecting the deep sense of pride and ownership that defines Omeo Primary School.

Proud of our heritage and motivated by innovation, Omeo Primary School is a vibrant community where students are known, supported and inspired to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
